Girvan Community Garden goes completely off-grid.
Thanks to 2 funding streams, ARIA’s Small Capital Fund and the Energy Agency’s Climate Challenge Fund, Girvan Community Garden is now completely off-grid. The ARIA funding has allowed us to purchase 2 solar power banks. These power banks will complement our existing solar power systems and allow us to have sufficient self- generated power to run our event days at any time of the year.
The Energy Agency funding has enabled us to filter rain water into drinking water. With the wet Scottish weather on our doorstep, we are constantly collecting rain water for both gardening and now catering purposes. Our filtration system collects rain water from the western side of the cabin roof into a 200 litre tank which gravity feeds our filtration tank. We are currently filtering approx. 7 litres of rain water into drinking water every day.
We would like to thank both ARIA and the Energy Agency for allowing us to fulfil our ecological ideals and directly address the issue of global warming.

Where To Find Us
Our Opening Hours Are

Community Garden
The garden has developed immensely over the years. We host wide and varied events throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn. We grow veg, apples, grapes and flowers. As well as people, we want to attract as many bees, butterflies and pollinating insects as possible. Creating a balance of events and being a garden can be challenging for us and this is something we are constantly monitoring.
Wildlife Area
Girvan Community Garden boasts a pond, a wildlife area, fruit trees, greenhouse and modest rotational allotments plots, as well as many other exciting features.
Wheelchair Access
We have easy access to the garden through our widened woodland walkway for prams and wheelchairs and we have a composting disabled accessible toilet.
Events
The garden plays host to a number of workshops, events and activities throughout the year and we get involved with schools and other groups to deliver projects both in the garden and out into the wider community.
Green Gym
What is a a green Gym? Basically, it is a chance for volunteers to come along and maintain the garden. Not only does the garden benefit massively but it has huge benefits for volunteers too who want to get out into nature get some fresh air, meet others over a cuppa and a blether, maybe learn a few things about gardening. Just come along and have a chat if it sounds like something you’d like to do. Every Tuesday from 10am-2pm.
