Wardies Idea
Monday April 12th 2021
The idea of making soap began in August 2020. It was a response to using the lemon balm plant that grows so well in our garden and to be a potential fundraiser. We made our first batch of cold process soap in Sept 2020.
The soap contains pure ingredients that are fantastic to nourish and cleanse the skin. It has a light & subtle lemon fragrance. The soap contains lemon balm powder that we oven dry and add to the recipe. It is made in small batches and only at certain times of the year. So when it's gone, it's gone! (until the next batch is made)
It is exclusive to Girvan Community Garden.
The soap is called Wardies Idea - because it was!
Our soap launched at the Easter Fayre 2021 and will be available to buy Saturday and Sunday when the garden is open 1-5pm. We have had great reviews so far!
Come in and see us, have a cuppa and a wee ‘shop up’ while you're there!

Frogs in our pond, Spring 2021
Thursday March 4th 2021
Our frogs had a hard time last year with spring being so dry. However, they have returned to the pond and seem to be very happy. There's about 30 or more. After they have mated they migrate to cool shady corners of the garden then return to the pond in the spring. They should still be at the pond when we open again at the end of March. Spring 2020
Saturday April 18th 2020
As you all know Girvan Community Garden has been closed to the public all winter and with the lockdown and subsequent social distancing now in place, it may be sometime before we are able to open the garden to you all again. However, we have been busy during the lockdown and Julie and Jim have been keeping the garden in a well maintained manner so that if and when we do open up again, the garden will not be a jungle!!!
As you can see from the photos there is an abundance of colourful flowers on view, particularly the tulips. Hopefully, and before the summer season finishes, we will be able to re-open again soon. As you can see from the photos, we have been improving our covered spaces.
Funding from the South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership has allowed us to build a covered area next to the compost area. This work is incomplete, due to working restrictions associated with the lockdown, but will resume when the restrictions loosen.
Ayrshire Leader funding has allowed us to buy a new dome and we have laid the frame foundation for the flooring. Again, when the lockdown restrictions begin to ease, we'll lay the floor and build the dome.
We have planted up tatties, onions and strawberries in the outdoor borders and tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers in the poly-tunnel and greenhouse.
Hope the photos remind you of what the garden looks like.
